Missing Persons in DC

For the last week I've been seeing news stories about missing girls in Washington D.C. There is a very high number of girls who have been kidnapped since the year started and they haven't been getting a lot of attention in the media because most of them are of color. The only reason the issue is getting the amount of attention it has is because the police have been using social media to try and aid their search. This relates to class because it is an intersectional issue, the missing girls are not being widely focused on because of their skin color. Reading these articles made me wonder how much of an issue this is in New York and other major cities like it.

Breastfeeding in Airports

Today I flew to Florida for Spring Break, while I was walking to my gate I passed what looked like a photo booth. Written on the side it said "privacy station for breastfeeding/pumping". I was surprised to see something like that because I never have before. I thought it was strange because I hadn't seen anything like that even in Europe and then I realized, it wouldn't be necessary in Europe, only because this is the US do women need to be in a private setting to feed their child.

Sexuality in Europe vs the US

In class we mentioned the differences between Europe and the US when it came to discussing sexuality in any way, and how in Europe it was far more accepted than here. Over the summer I spent five days in Ireland and five days in London, and almost everywhere I went in Ireland they had condom dispensers in the bathrooms which I found very strange. Also it was pointed out to me how in America film is more strictly censored. I was talking about movies with a few friends and remembered spending weeks convincing my dad to take me to see Watchmen when it came out even though it was rated R and I was in middle school. I finally convinced him and he brought me but then had his arm around my shoulders waiting to cover my eyes any time any sort of female nudity came on the screen (I specify female because otherwise I'd have had my eyes covered the whole time because of the glowing blue penis in every other scene) and when I told my friend that he said that that's what's wrong in the US.
